LIGHT SODAS…HELP TO LOSE WEIGHT?

You love the sodas, and to not feel guilty, you always opt for the light version? According to a study carried out by researchers at Imperial College London, the University of Sao Paolo and the Federal University of Pelotas (Brazil), these so-called “sugar-free” drinks would not help us to lose weight, and worse, they would even make us fat…

The artificial sweeteners in these drinks would push us to consume more calories, because of their sweet taste: “sugar calls sugar”. These sodas should therefore be subject to the same taxes and advertising restrictions as drinks which do not call themselves light…

But further research is needed to confirm what scientists are advancing. “There is no evidence today that light drinks are effective for weight loss or prevention of metabolic abnormalities. Evidence on children’s health is even more limited than for adults, “the authors of the study, published in the medical journal Plis Medicine, said.

The problem for Carlos Monteiro, a professor at the University of Sao Paulo, is rather the incoherence of the regulation on sweetened beverages: “taxes and regulations on sugar beverages, not applied to sugar-free beverages, favor consumption of these dietary beverages rather than plain water, which is the best source of hydration desirable for all “.
